Sign On Letter to the US Secretary of Homeland Security Condemning the Targeting of Immigrant Rights Leaders & Individuals Associated with the Sanctuary Movement

Dear friends and comrades

Rob Robinson, IAI coordinator for North America has sent an urgent call for solidarity that we relaunch!

We are struggling in New York City and beyond with respect to the Government targeting activists in US. So we are writing to ask you to join in signing on to the online letter in support of Ravi Ragbir and three other immigrant rights leaders recently targeted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Ravi is the Executive Director of the New Sanctuary Coalition of NYC which is a network of faith groups that advocates for immigrants and works to reform detention and deportation practices in New York City and nationwide. He was arrested by ICE at his check in last week and is currently detained and at imminent risk of deportation.  Ravi's arrest is part of a larger disturbing pattern of ICE targeting our community leaders.  Jean Montrevil, one of the co-founders of the New Sanctuary Coalition of NYC was also arrested by ICE last week and was deported.  Maru Mora-Villalpando, who leads the Northwest Detention Center Resistance was served with a Notice to Appear this week, initiating deportation proceedings against her.  Eliseo Jurado was detained last week and is the husband of immigrant rights activist Ingrid Encalada Latorre, who has taken sanctuary in Colorado churches since December 2016.

Imprisoning and expelling activist leaders is a tool of repression that is the hallmark of authoritarian regimes around the world and is incompatible with democracy.

>>> Please sign on to the online letter (either individually or as an organization)  by Friday 19/01/18 at 2pm  to call on Secretary of Homeland Security Department to immediately release Ravi Ragbir and Eliseo Jurado, to bring back Jean Montrevil, to end the effort to deport Maru Mora-Villalpando and to cease using detention and deportation as a tool to repress dissent.

You can sign on through the google form linked here: https://goo.gl/forms/YBxQoBLjwcPuhGCC2

In solidarity

Rob
