Belgium, the Platform for Vacant Housing

Join the Platform for Vacant Housing to include the issue of vacant and/or abandoned housing in the electoral campaign of June 2009.

Housing, the indecency of having vacant ones

The number of vacant housing units in the Brussels region is estimated to be at least 15,000. This is completely unacceptable, considering the current housing crisis. Despite the numerous administrative and legal tools available in the communities and the region, the problem, from legislature to legislature, remains unresolved.

Rassemblement Bruxellois pour le Droit à l'Habitat (RBDH), Brusselse Raad voor het Leefmilieu (BRAL) and Inter-Environnement Bruxelles (IEB) are inviting other associations, federations, comitties, as well as citizens who are concerned by the issue of vacant buildings, both public and private, in the Brussels region to get together in order to form a specific platform.

The goal of this platform is to include the issue of vacant and/or abandoned housing in the electoral campaign in June 2009. The aim is to gather together all the platform’s demands for the new regional government’s “ plan to battle against vacant buildings” .

You can download the Vacant Housing Platform’s Text that declares our various propositions and demands for implementing an effective plan for the battle against vacant buildings and for their possible reconversion into usable housing.

To form this Platform, we hope to broaden the circle of our current partners and we invite you to join us, by letting us know that you will sign and support the issued demands.
