Verso Habitat III: non disturbare l'operatore?

Il 26/05/15 la Piattaforma Globale per il Diritto alla Città, costituita dalle più importanti reti internazionali coinvolte nel tema, ha inviato una lettera per proporre la collaborazione della società civile alla preparazione del Vertice delle Nazioni Unite Habitat III (Quito, ottobre 2016).Sfortunatamente, ad oggi, non è pervenuta alcuna risposta, aggiungendo un'ulteriore barriera a quelle che ONU Habitat sta già innalzando. Nulla di sorprendente visto che la proposta è fondata sui diritti umani, un approccio che potrebbe disturbare l'ONU Habitat, ben ancorato ai principi neoliberali.Nell'attesa che qualcuno decida infine di rispondere, vale la pena impegnarsi decisamente nella costruzione del Forum Sociale Urbano Mondiale Alternativo a Habitat III.

They are “internally displaced persons,” or IDPs. By the end of 2014 there were 38 million of them, more than twice the number of refugees.

Nazioni Unite: La responsabilità legale delle autorità locali per il rispetto del diritto alla casa

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on adequate housing Leilani Farha Pubblichiamo l'ultimo Rapporto della Relatrice Speciale delle Nazioni Unite sul Diritto alla casa, presentato alla 28 Sessione del Consiglio sui Diritti Umani delle Nazioni Unite (Ginevra, 2 a 27 Marzo 2015). Si tratta di un Rapporto molto importante perché precisa come la ratifica da parte degli stati del Patto Internazionale sui Diritti Economici, Sociali e Culturali, impone anche alle autorità locali l'obbligo legale di proteggere tale diritto con azioni e politiche adeguate. Da leggere con attenzione e utilizzare nelle vertenze locali, in particolare nella battaglia contro gli sfratti, dove le autorità locali svolgono spesso un ruolo primario.Dunque, nessuna scusa di fronte al disimpegno manifestato da certe autorità locali. Invece, deve essere chiaro a tutti che anche loro hanno l'obbligo legale ad agire per difendere il diritto alla casa.

Why the World Needs to Get Ready for the Next Generation of Slums

People who live in slums don't have easy lives to begin with. Lately, though, politicians have been doing their best to make matters even more complicated. A few weeks ago the Venezuelan government started evicting Caracas's infamous 45-story slum, the "Tower of David," relocating residents to government housing outside the city. In early July, a few weeks earlier, a thousand slum dwellers in Islamabad found themselves confronting riot police as they tried to protest the Pakistani government's plans to evict them from their homes ("katchi adabi " settlements). Around the same time, a local government in India approved plans to build the first of 10,000 new "transit accommodations" for displaced slum dwellers. That followed Bombay's brutal anti-slum drive in May, when authorities bulldozed more than 100 family homes, forcing over 600 residents onto the streets.
