Contenuti:
Palestinian national movements and grassroots organisations have held a wave of popular protest and action to call for an end to Israeli occupation and apartheid and an immediate end to the siege on Gaza, as part of the World Social Forum Global Action Day on 26 January.
Decisioni:
Actions have been organised by the Palestinian National Initiative, the Stop the Wall campaign, the Popular Committees Against the Apartheid Wall, the National Committee for the Commemoration of the Nakba, the Palestinian NGO Network, Ittijah, the Gaza On My Mind Campaign (Gaza ‘Ala Bali) in Ramallah and a coalition of 40 local organizations in Nablus.

1. Tuesday January 22 a convoy coming from all over Palestine ’48 (Israel) to Eretz crossing to Gaza gathered to bring humanitarian aid to the people suffering under the fatal siege and military attacks. A protest was staged near the Eretz crossing. Event organized by: Coalition to Break the Siege (Ittijah, Balad party, Islamic movement, Abna al Balad, etc.)

2. Saturday 26 January a demonstration was called for by the Palestinian National Initiative, the National Committee for the Commemoration of the Nakba, the Stop the Wall Campaign the Palestine NGO Network in Ramallah. In spite of heavy rain, more than 100 people marched through in central Ramallah in protest of Occupation crimes in the West Bank and Gaza. Demonstrators called for an end to the continuing Nakba, the construction of the Wall and the ongoing siege on Gaza. Signs in both Arabic and English were intended to send a message not only to local Palestinians, but also to the world community as a whole. Protestors criticized the almost total international lack of concern and protest against Zionist policy, especially in regards to Gaza, where Occupation authorities have been more than willing to starve, bomb and terrorize the entire population. Demonstrators also openly opposed the ethnic cleansing being carried out by Occupation forces in the West Bank. The construction of the Wall continues, in flagrant disregard of the ICJ ruling, to destroy Palestinian property. Protests were held yesterday in Bil’in and Bethlehem, two areas where that have been adversely affected by the path of the Wall.

3. On Saturday January 26, a protest in Nablus was organized by a coalition of 40 local organizations.

4. On Friday January 25 a protest in the southern villages near Bethlehem organized by the local Popular Committee Against the Apartheid Wall. Around 200 villagers gathered at a nearby Israeli military checkpoint located out side the village of Al Khader preventing the villagers from reaching their lands. After Friday prayers the march moved towards the checkpoint, where Occupation forces stopped the protest and did not allow it to move forward. Speeches were delivered by the organizers. Demonstrators were about to leave when Israeli troops fired tear gas at the protest. Two children from the village if Al Khader sustained light wounds and 9 other protesters were treated for gas inhalation.

5. On Friday January 25 a protest in the village of Bil’in organized by the Bil’in Popular Committee Against the Apartheid Wall. Occupation forces installed a military barrier along the way of the protest on the villagers land and as soon as the protesters reached it, the troops showered the demonstration with tear gas and rubber coated steel bullets. Eight protestors were injured; among them two international supporters. In addition, the Israeli troops kidnapped four protesters, three Palestinians and one American after attacking them with rifle butts and batons.
